Solomon Using Public Money For Personal Gain?
CLARIFICATION/CORRECTION
WeAreOroValley would like to clear up a misunderstanding from our March 5 blog post entitled "Solomon Using Public Money for Personal Gain?. There have been no accusations made to the Town of Oro Valley that Steve Solomon has been accused of misappropriation of funds, and, as far as we know he has not been charged with any wrongdoing regarding misappropriation of funds.
WeAreOroValley believes Mr. Solomon used Town funds inappropriately when he used $3,000 from his travel budget (allocated to him from the Town's General Fund) for a police awards ceremony....The police union endorsed Mr. Solomon's campaign for Town Council.
March 5, 2012 Post*:
One week ago I requested public records for Solomon's diversion of public funds from the Council Training and Travel budget to be used for a dinner for the Oro Valley Police Department.
On it's face, one might think he was doing something nice for the fine men and women who serve on the local police force. One does not have to look very far to see his personal gain with public funds.
*Steve Solomon, an appointed (not elected) Council Member is running for election in Oro Valley.
WeAreOroValley thinks this is a "Misappropriation of Funds" and that he is using public funds for the purpose of capitalizing unfairly by his subsequent endorsement from the local police in the current election.*
*clarification of the original post "Has been accused...." changed to "WeAreOroValley thinks this is a..."
The Town of Oro Valley Administrative Directive for Travel and Training clearly states the Travel and Training budget is "..to encourage training opportunities...so that their services rendered to the Town will be made more effective."
Solomon's diversion of $3,000 from his travel budget to the police for an Awards Ceremony dinner, fails to meet this policy. *In the opinion of WeAreOroValley.
Another question for Mr. Solomon: Why did we, the taxpayers, pay for your resort, poolside dinner and evening of listening to the Jazz Festival shortly after your appointment to the Town Council?
Perhaps we should like deeper into Solomon's use of public money.
ALL RECORDS WERE OBTAINED FROM THE TOWN OF ORO VALLEY VIA A PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST. These records are available for your viewing via a public records request to the Town Clerks office.

Thank You Oro Valley Voters!
As many of you already know, Bill Garner was re-elected by a landslide!
We have two new Council Members, Brendan Burns and Mike Zinkin.
Thank you to the voters of Oro Valley and THANK YOU to the generous donors who gave to WeAreOroValley.org Your financial support allowed us to put Solomon's voting record 'on the street' for all to see!
Please join me in looking to the future, the 2014 elections. We must begin building our $$war chest NOW$$ to defeat the four incumbents that will likely seek re-election.
Please consider a small donation to help us keep up the momentum! There is a lot of work to do!

Support A Leadership Whose Special Interest is YOU
Fiscal restraint and responsibility is prioritizing expenses to meet existing revenues. It is not raising revenues to meet unnecessary spending.
This is not a concept all of the current Oro Valley Town Council appears to understand. **
Please help us, WeAreOroValley.org to send the message during this election.
A $5 contribution will allow us to communicate our message to 41,011 Oro Valley residents.
We promise your hard earned money will not be wasted! We understand times are tough for most of us. After all, we each live on our EXISTING revenues and manage our expenses responsibly. We're simply asking our town government do the same.
**Such as doubling the Utility Tax during a recession and at a time when over 15% of Oro Valley families homes are listed as "distressed"

There are times when it is absolutely necessary for the people of a community to "rise up"; to take charge of the destiny of their community and not leave it in the hands of those whose decisions would change, forever, the beauty of their land.
We Are The People.
Our Time Has Come.
The purpose of "We Are Oro Valley" is to support the political campaigns of those we believe will represent the best interests of the people of Oro Valley and not the best interests of special interests groups.
It is the special interest groups, many of whose members are not residents of Oro Valley and, therefore, have no real stake in life as we live it here, who changed the landscape of our elected town in the election of 2010. While we were "sleeping", they poured thousands into the campaigns of those who have made decisions that have and will forever change our lives for the worse.
This year We Are Oro Valley stood up to this council and their special interest buddies to make a difference. We worked around the clock to defeat the special interests. We won two critical victories.
It shouldn't have to be this way. We should be able to sleep at night knowing that those we elected will protect our way of life. We shouldn't have to stay awake worrying what new General Plan Amendment or Zoning request will interrupt and will forever darken our living standard.
That's why we are supporting the candidacy of only those who truly represent the people and only the people:
Won't you help us help them by contributing even a few dollars to our cause?
Believe us, it will be the best investment you will ever make.
